Rod Stackelberg
Rod Stackelberg retired as
professor of history in 2004 after teaching at Gonzaga University
for twenty-six years. Since his retirement he has been writing his
memoirs, the first volume of which he self-published with iUniverse under the
title, Out of Hitler's Shadow: Childhood and Youth in Germany and the United States, 1935-1967, in
2010. He is the author of four other books: Idealism Debased: From Völkisch Ideology to National Socialism (Kent
State University Press, 1981); Hitler's Germany: Origins, Interpretations,
Legacies (Routledge, 1999, 2nd ed., 2009); (with Sally A. Winkle) The
Nazi Germany Sourcebook (Routledge, 2002); and The Routledge Companion
to Nazi Germany (2008). Nine additional chapters of memoirs,
carrying the story of his life up to 1982, the year he received tenure at
Gonzaga, are published as a blog on his website at www.roderickstackelberg.com
