Peggy De Hart

 

 

            Phoebe Doris Eaton De Hart, (Peggy), was born at Wheatland, Wyoming and grew up on her father’s homestead at Glendo, Wyoming.  She cannot remember her first ride on a horse, long before she was a year old.

 

     World War Two, 1943 found Peggy hired by the Western Defense Command and Fourth Army to work in Alaska, First at Anchorage, then winter at Nome, Alaska 1944.  She was rated as a private in case of capture by the enemy.

 

     Peggy and her husband were 27 years in business.  After his death, Peggy worked at Children’s Hospital in Seattle, until retirement in 1989.  She then served as a Missionary with Hospital Christian Fellowship, in Trinidad in West Indies.

 

     Peggy began to collect data for a book in 1961.  In 1990 she began to write.  In 1993 she copyrighted her first book, ©CHRONICLES OF A WESTERN FAMILY, VOL1.

Her second book, 1993 © CHRONICLES OF A WESTERN FAMILY, VOL11.

Her third book, 1998 © CHEECHAKO.  This book has been accepted by the Library Of Congress, Veterans History Project, Washington, D.C., July 19, 2002.

Her articles are published in National Magazines:

“Platte County Range War”, in Fall 1994 issue of OLD WEST MAGAZINE.

“End of an Era”, in November 1998 issue of WESTERN HORSEMAN MAGAZINE.

“Lady of the Plains”, in March 2001 issue of FENCE POST MAGAZINE.

“Homesteading, Herding and Magical Days” Summer 2003 RANGE MAGAZINE.

“Platte County Range War”, December 29, 2003 issue of FENCE POST MAGAZINE.

“My First Turkey Shoot”, June 2004 Issue of SHOTGUN SPORTS MAGAZINE.

 

            In January 1997, Peggy appeared in a documentary, “RIDING THE RAILS’, shown at Robert Redford’s SUNDANCE FILM FESTIVAL.  She was the only woman in the film, which was then shown on National Public Television, AMERICAN EXPERIENCE: RIDING THE RAILS, in 1998, 1999, and 2001.

 

     Peggy is still writing and busy with family and church.  She is now living near her son I Spokane, Washington.  Peggy worships God, travels and fishes at every opportunity.
