Robert D. Magart
Robert (Bob) D. Magart
grew up in Valley, Washington, a farming community fifty miles north of Spokane. Favorite memories include, deer hunting,
building tree forts, shoveling snow, and killing rats with Lady, the family’s
Golden Retriever. Bob excelled in
football, wrestling, debate, and drama.
Academically he thrived on history and politics, serving as senior class
president.
Bob
graduated from Gonzaga
University in 1979 with a
BA in history. He taught History and
English in Chewelah, Washington.
He was also golf and assistant wrestling coach. In addition, Bob taught drama and theater for
three years. In 1984 he obtained an MA
in Curriculum Education and Administration.
Bob
became a publishers’ representative in 1990, serving librarians in Montana, Idaho, and Wyoming. With librarians recommending various books,
and by searching the stacks, he always has a book on his reading table. Bob is very knowledgeable on the causes of
WWII, the history of the American Civil War, and the great “son of the Revolution,”
Henry Clay. Bob likes novelists Shelby
Foote and the little known Alan Bradley.
He is also inspired by Hemingway, Faulkner, Joyce, and the great
non-fiction and history writer, Bruce Catton.
Bob
is currently completing a novel tentatively entitled JD and the Black Light
Bulldog. This young adult story is about JD, a
high school sophomore, who having lost his grandmother is forced to live with a
mother he didn’t know existed. He runs
afoul of Josef Mars, who is deeply disturbed.
Growing to understand Mars, JD is faced with his betrayal of his one
true friend, Terry Ortega.
