Spokane Authors & Self-Publishers www.synergetics.org/sasp Newsletter # 6 - December 2000
> > > WINTER LUNCHEON PROGRAMS < < < (SASP meets September thru June on the first Thursday of the month, 11:30 am - 2 p.m. at the Old Country Buffet, 5504 N. Division. Buffet cost: $5.99 + tax. Guests are welcome)
January 4: Tony and Suzanne Bamonte share stories from their new book, Miss Spokane, Elegant Ambassadors and Their City.
These two busy authors set a good example for the rest of us! Just last year, they published Historical Images of Spokane and the Inland Northwest. And now, another one! It's always a treat to share the Bamontes' view of our past - published with very modern methods… They'll have slides to share, and "autobiographical accounts by some of the former Miss Spokanes!" (The first Miss Spokane was Marguerite Motie, selected from 138 entries in 1912.)
February 1: Webmaster Tim Hillebrand and Tamara Georgick will have a "show and tell" about eBooks.
Tim's our guy who keeps us up to date on the electronic publishing scene. Tamara Georgick is media coordinator for the Washington State Library. She has a collection of different ebooks and has promised to let us play with them! We can see them, touch them, and get a feel for the different kinds. Ready or not, the digital age is coming! At the very least, it's good for us to know what people are talking about.
March 2: Sharing our Stories - Specifically, our Memoirs.
Personal recollections often provide the most lively and interesting view of regional and local history. It occurred to us that we had not sampled much of our own members' stories - so here's our chance. John Church, author of Pasadena Cowboy is coordinating the program, so if you want to participate, call him at (509) 624-2840, or e-mail him at pscowboy@sisna.com.

A REMINDER ABOUT LUNCH!
Remember, SASPers, the reason that the folks at Old Country Buffet are happy to see us on the first Thursday of every month and set up the tables for us, provide coffee and drinks, plus a podium & mike, is because we eat lunch there!! Please purchase your lunch ticket at the entrance before coming back to our meeting room!! Thanks.
It's Official! Here are our AWE Officers for 2001.
President: Tim Hillebrand 208-883-8814 chief@synergetics.org Vice President: Jim Hooppaw 509-466-8148 jwhoop@mindspring.com Secretary: Jolene Feher 509-489-0544 fehersong@earthlink.net Treasurer: Phyllis Heinel 509-325-0446 pheinel@worldnet.att.net
And a little bit about them….
Tim Hillebrand, retired archaeologist, college professor and entrepreneur, lives in Moscow (Idaho) where he and his wife are cultivating a fabulous Japanese garden in their back yard. He's an active Internet participant - using it as a vehicle for selling business lists, among other things - and is our SASP webmaster. He hopes to "have SASP become a vital force in helping more of our members take the leap to getting their material published. One of the great vehicles for realizing this goal is electronic publishing. I would like to see our website become a publishing place where our members could publish their work, and where people could purchase it and download it in a variety of digital forms."
Jim Hooppaw first came to Spokane when he was assigned to Fairchild AFB, and returned here to Nine Mile Falls with his wife Wendy when he retired . His first SASP meeting encouraged him to continue pursuing the publication of his stories about flying, Where the Buf Fellows Roamed. He "prefers to write in the first person and tell his tales as if he is talking directly to you." As an officer of SASP, he hopes to "use the experience and advice of everyone, especially the present officers, to maintain the high degree of interest and expanding knowledge NEXT---->>>>
